Vision and Objectives

Guided by the best available science, Climate Action Pittwater Inc. is  concerned that human activities continue to substantially increase the atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases and that this is resulting in rapid climate change, which is adversely affecting natural ecosystems and humankind. Our vision is to engage our community in the development of a more sustainable lifestyle, for the benefit of present and future generations.

Our objectives are:

1 To raise awarenes of the reality of climate change in our community, including by undertaking awareness raising projects on the use of new and renewable sources of energy and energy efficiency technologies and practices

2 To promote solutions to combat climate change at the local level to help ensure:

a) the complete phase out of emissions from mining, transporting and burning coal for electricity generation

b) the transition from fossil fuel based electricity generation to a zero carbon emission 100% renewable form of power generation

c) the use of devices to capture and store renewable sources of energy such as solar hot water systems, solar PV electricity (battery storage and grid connected), wind

d) the use of improved energy efficient technologies and practices, such as low energy lighting, improved insulation, energy efficient glazing and low embedded carbon emission products such as 'green concrete', green roofs etc.

e) the progressive reduction in our reliance on carbon based fuels for transport and the improvement and increase in the use of public transport within the community

3 To encourage synergies between local community groups, the aboriginal people of Pittwater, local businesses, local schools and local government, on matters related to climate change
